Quarter One

How to Succeed in High School Workbook

Chapter 13—The Parts of a Sentence—subjects, verbs, complements, fragments, etc.

Chapter 9—Writing Complete Sentences—fragments, run-ons

Chapter 10—Writing Effective Sentences—sentence combining, style, etc.

Chapter 11—Understanding Paragraph Structure—topic sentence, body, clincher sentence, unity, coherence, elaboration

Common Core Standards: L 9-10.1, L 9-10.2, L 9-10.4, L 9-10.5, L 9-10.6

Quarter Two

Chapter 1—Descriptive Paragraph Writing—describe a place, describe a person, describe yourself.   CCS W 9-10.3, W 9-10.4, W 9-10.5, W 9-10.10

Personal Experience Speech—3-5 minute informative speech—organization, outlining, controlling stage fright, delivery techniques.  CCS W 9-10.3, W 9-10.4, W 9-10.5, W 9-10.10, SL 9-10.1, SL 9-10.4, SL 9-10.6,

Chapter 17—Using Verbs Correctly—types, principal parts, tenses, agreement, etc.

Chapter 18—Using Pronouns Correctly—types, forms, cases, agreement, etc.

Textbook exercises, worksheets, writing assignments, and board work comprise the types of work the students complete.

Quarter Three

Romeo and Juliet
